Ecological Value Systems

Synopsis
In this media literacy activity, students decode five book covers and their descriptions to examine the different value systems they express about humans and the natural world.
Students analyze publishing techniques, consider whose voices are prioritized or left out, and reflect on how their own experiences and identities shape their ecological values.

Prerequisites:
Ensure students are familiar with climate change and its impacts.
Differentiation:
Assign one book cover per small group before a whole-class comparison, and provide sentence frames for the self-reflection questions.
