Synopsis
- In this unit from Global Schools Program, students will learn about what makes a changemaker and how they can become changemakers in their communities.
- Students will interview their role models, analyze the characteristics of changemakers, and discuss how to solve local problems that connect to the Sustainable Development Goals.

Prerequisites
- In Lesson 2, the link for Change Agents in Our Own Lives requires a free account. To make an account, teachers will have to give information about themselves and their school. Additionally, the links for Lesson 3 are all broken, aside from the one for the Sample Interview Protocol.
- Students should already have an understanding of character traits.
- Lesson 4 refers to a strategy called sketchnotes. The lesson includes a link to two resources explaining this strategy, but both of these links are broken. Teachers can research this strategy or use an established note-taking strategy.
Differentiation & Implementation
- Teachers may want to have a list of trusted adults in the school that students can interview as a role model if they cannot think of anyone outside of school they would like to interview.
- To make connections to creative writing, students can write a story about a changemaker, focusing on how to show that this character embodies the traits of a changemaker.
- Teachers may want to make a list of questions to add to the list in Lesson 3 that will elicit conversations about social issues in the local community.
This unit helps students understand their role in their community and encourages them to think about how they can help and get involved in their communities. The unit uses the United Nations Sustainable Development goals, many of which are related to climate change, the environment, and environmental justice, to explore the idea of making change. The information presented is accurate, and this resource is recommended for teaching.
